Bastian's Bash

Michael Bastian pitched his GANT line and celebrated the release of Take Ivy last night at Saks. I really detest these kinds of things but you meet nice folks. I'm guessing pretty soon designers are going to exhaust the supply of aspirational sports. Polo, rugby, crew and now lacrosse. I guess we can all be players - even when we're not.

Update: GANT advises Rugger is their archival line designed by Christopher Bastin while Michael designs, GANT by Michael Bastian. San Carlos Bastion is where I made out with a female park ranger many summers ago.

Befitting;
Seems right to release the new line on the first day of September.
Won't be long now until layers are a necessity.Nice display.

Gee, these designers are late to the party.

A roommate at Uni had a Choate lacrosse team t-shirt in black on grey with a silhouetted player VERY similar to the blue and aqua sweater shown above.

That was in 1987. The t-shirt never failed to draw interested looks from the ladies.

It was a pleasure meeting you last night. Meeting nice folks is definitely a plus. As is an open bar.

What do those clothes have to do with the book?

As Tracy Jordan said on 30 Rock, "Someday I'll be so rich that my grandkids will play lacrosse."

I must admit I was a little surprised that someone would actually go beyond homage for Take Ivy to the point of "branding" it. Will other designers now run from it? I guess when it comes to $$$ it's impossible to be too obvious. It's also my guess that you were the most authentic trad there...and completely ignored.

So I must agree with longwing except for the stylish mixing and pairing that is testimony to the book.

I should certainly hope so. What kind of trad would want to attract attention in such a fashionable retail setting?

Flimsy and twee. Attenuated Rugby. Watered down J. Crew.

Flimsy and Twee. Sounds like a gay law firm.

These duds are rather dull even for you, Tintin ol' chum.

Come now. I suspect you don't detest these publicity events, but rather secretly enjoy them because they give you more personal exposure and draw you in to the Noo Yawk 'in-crowd,' as you imagine it.

Question for you. Why don't you include links to other blogs on your blog?

You forgot squash, racquets, and court tennis. I don't know why anyone would want to wear a huge lacrosse player on their chest. It is not cool or upper class or anything like that. It would be better to wear the "College" t-shirt from Animal House. Ann

Read the book last night; think it is simply wonderful, as it depicts my salad days, when all the boys I knew dressed that way!

The phrase or label that struck me with such irony is "uncouth style," as the author applied to sloppy dressing. What term could possibly be used to describe current campus wear? Simply wondering . . .

I'm not a fan of the lacrosse imagery either, and I play the sport. Leave the imagery to Abercrombie or Rugby, I expected more from Bastian and the new Gant.

I've been to your blog a time or two over the last year but I've now officially bookmarked it. The Blind Oxford Tasting was interesting and the Back to School entry was entertaining, but what put me over the top was your Bastin/Bastian/San Carlos Bastion explanation. Funny stuff!
