Something Special...

Kate Spade Restroom - One of the Best

Showplace Antique Center @ 40 W 25th Street. Website Here

Last Summer I was visiting Jack Spade and before leaving stopped by the powder room. I've visited a number of New York's fashion elite restrooms. I think they tell a lot about the designer and the brand and you'll be able to see them all just as soon as I secure my book deal, "Fashion Takes A Dump." A sumptuous coffee table book filled with full color photographs of fashion's places to ponder. He may be Tom Ford but he has to pee just like any other man... he may pee sitting down but you get my point.

I'm heading east on 25th Street and am stopped in my tracks by a window display of enamel double links. Thinking it one store -- it turns to a gallery of stores. Over 200 on four floors packed to the gunwales with some of the most bizarre, interesting, cool, kitschy stuff you're likely to find... in one place.

There's a website so no excuses about living in Naperville and having to shop at the Woodfield Mall. You're gonna have to forgo a 70% discount as well but you know all this discount stuff is bullshit anyway. Americans would buy horseshit if it were discounted enough. Which is mostly what's in the malls of this country.

Some ideas for ladies today and I'll follow with guy stuff tomorrow Monday. Be warned. This is shopping that takes some thought but it's connecting with someone special through something special. You'll know it when you see it.

How funny. When I was a kid my parents used to tease me because upon returning, I would comment on the cleanliness and style quotient of every restroom I visited. It's actually a little weird I think, when a business spends so much to look hip or fabulous, but then sends one off to a horrible bathroom.

Love that first shot. It's like, "Whoops, hey, maybe get a grab shot of this, too!"

That parrot thing? What's up with that?

If I lived in Naperville I'd find little reason to shop Woodfield Mall...what with Fox Valley Mall right in town;)

Did I miss the URL for this place in the post? Or did I misread that?

One time in Aspen while on a ski trip....I left a hopping nightclub to walk 1/2 mile to the Ritz Carlton just to use their fine facilities....

The antiques are great but what I really want is a first edition of Fashion Takes A Dump!!! I almost dropped my laptop laughing when I read this.

I'm also guilty of photographing fab public restrooms, I suppose because they are such a rarity. I agree with Jennings & Gates completely.

Btw~I love your taste, but you know that.

Love Spade's signature stripes in the bathroom. For some reason reminds me of an exhibit I saw earlier this year. Designers had done four city apartments in some flashy building in midtown, themed around four big movies. I remember one was Diane Keaton and Jack Nicholson in Something's Gotta Give... Forget two of them...

The one that got me was Gordon Gekko. The bathroom was black and gold. I don't normally like gold but this one had something. Bold and striped.

Makaga - Go. You'll love it.

Jennings & Gate - I became a crapper cognoscenti after being diagnosed as lactose intolerant at 15.

David V- Remind me to tell you of what the old Britches store at the Woodfield Mall created and named, The Schaumberg Special.

clanfear- You did. It's under the 2nd picture. Click on the hi-lited blue word, Here.

Main Line- After living in Chicago for almost 20 yrs (and being lactose intolerant) I know where the very best restrooms are all over the city. One other tip. Almost any office building that uses cypher code lock bathrooms usually use 1,2,3,4. This is handy knowledge if you had pecorino cheese at lunch and forgot you're lactose intolerant.

TRVS- Are you stealing my book idea!?

Alice- It was funny. For the rest of the day, whenever I blinked I saw the US flag. What is this thing you have for Gekko?

tim- what's so funny?

oxford cloth - And Springfield, OH is a smart place to find quality houses.

I think Tom Ford has someone pee for him, actually.
