Men of the Cloth Showing

A day late and a dollar short goes my story... Men of the Cloth (covered here) premieres tonight and I can't make it but I can't wait to see it.  I understand tickets were especially difficult to secure but if you're in town tomorrow night -- that's this Thursday -- You might well be in luck.  According to producer/director, Vicki Vasilopoulos, a Fairchild alum and an amazingly sweet person despite her tenure at Fairchild, there are openings for tomorrow night.  Are you impulsive?.. and in NYC tomorrow night?..Then by all means... jump on it.

Trad Xmas List: Film Producer in the USA

The usual suspects are all here;  scissors, measuring tape, buttons, chalk and cloth. What makes 'Men of the Cloth' unusual is the heart of the Italian tailors.  While Savile Row maintains an aloof distance and cool passion, Vicki Vasilopoulos allows us to see and hear men talk of tailoring as if it were a religion or a woman. This film could make a rock cry.

For 10 years, Vicki and her crew stitched together storia and are looking for money so finishing touches can be completed and the film released.  If you ever wanted to be a film producer - here's your chance. Check out your crew and all their hard work here on the film web site.  All you have to do, like most producers, is sign a check.

Vicki, through Kickstarter (site here),  has raised almost $11,000 of a $20,000 goal.  Donate $1,500 and you'll receive that associate producer credit.  For a $750 donation, Nino Corvato will custom tailor a pair of trousers. For a $1,200 donation, Martin Greenfield will make a suit.  There are plenty more incentives on the Kickstarter web site and I can't think of a better last minute Christmas gift.  The deadline is this Friday, December 21st, at 11:39 PM.

A Man's Movie: Summer Lovers

Shot on the Greek Island of Santorini, this 1982 guilty pleasure of cheese gives you travel poster scenery, gorgeous naked women, lots of drinking and smoking, plenty of sex and The Three Stooges. What it doesn't give you is a story but as a critic wrote, "Any movie about a menage a trois on a Greek Island can't be all bad." Amen to that. Daryl Hannah, Peter Gallagher and a stunning Valerie Quennessen (1957-1989) star.

Directed by Blue Lagoon's, Randal Kleiser, a college buddy turned screenwriter met the director at a party and told Kleiser how much his college room mate (me) loved this film. Kleiser avoided my buddy the rest of the night. The horrible story is kept alive with a bouncing sound track that includes Robert Palmer's, Johnny and Mary (covered by Tina Turner in the film) seen here in a equally cheesy Italian video from 1980. I suggest pairing this movie with a Santorini chardonnay and some feta. Make it a whole lotta feta.
