Mixing Plaids

Brannoch Advertisement, Fall, 1989

Brannoch is long gone.  Owned by Plaid Clothing Group, Inc. and acquired by Hartmarx in 1996, it died under the watch of William Roberti.  Mixing plaid successfully is not child's play. Neither is presiding over Brooks Brothers under Marks & Sparks or shooting Duck Head with a .410 shotgun.  Today Roberti works as a public sector crisis management consultant. He must be doing something right.

Looks like John Cleese and Mandy Patinkin had a love child. Guessing from his wardrobe we know whose side of the family he favors.

J. Press used to work with Brannoch and the brilliant Mike Kinney who went on to pick the goods for Ralph at Black Label. Lost track over the years, but top of the game.

Is there a rule of thumb for mixing plaids? I'm asking this genuinely. Large with small or differing textures/colors? You're right that it's not for the timid.

Model is Kenny Bates, CEO of the defunct mill agent, Roger Laviale, where the occasionally inspired Mike Kinney bought a lot of his British goods.
