One Sexy Rear End: Penthouse 1973

Amazing isn't it? I'd like to wash her naked with a really big sponge and some...

Turtle Wax. The Volvo 1800 ES. Pretty sexy...

Especially for a wagon.

Mmm, A bucket of warm water, a bottle of Wash & Wax and thou...

Wow, I just saw a beater version of that wagon for the first time ever on the show Chasing Classic Cars on Velocity (fka HDNet) and now here it is on The Trad!

As a wagon guy, I now want one.

That Volvo wagon does have a sexy rear end. Get a look at all that glass.

Okay, confession time. And a little age embarrassment. After I saw the movie Car Wash - which had a scene in it where a young lady employee complains about someone ruining her burrito - I had to ask you what that was. Having just come from living in Colorado, you were able to tell me.

And you didn't laugh. If that happened today, you might. Such is the way that ethnic fast food has become: homogenized, packaged and served up in every chain drive-thru in every American town, big and small.

How on earth did we go from this to the AMC Pacer in 2 years?

No Hype- Never saw one. A great idea:

Although a little Vega looking if you ask me.

Paul in NoVa- Didn't catch it and can't find it on the net but did find this:

10 years ago, a nice one could be had for $5,000. Looks like they're running almost $20k for a good one and $5k for a beater.

DB- I didn't laugh at you?! I must'a been stoned or something.

I like those pearls. I wonder who thought of them.

Oyster Guy- These are the Swedes, dude. Today, Swedish design is knocking off American madras shirts from the '60s. A sad decline for sure but don't stick 'em with the Pacer.

Can't help but offer the Jaguar Wagon up. They call it a shooting brake. No idea why but it's one sexy rear end:

That same rear end can be found on the C30

Rumor is the C30 was an all-gal designed concept car targeting the Mini and Beatle crowd. Cute car.
Now for a wagon that will haul in all senses of the word, look to the 2013 Fisker Surf Wagon- yummy!

And oh yeah- HANG ON SAAB! -smile-

I have a couple of Volvo wagons but they are NOT in the same universe as that beauty you've showcased.

This one of my all time favorite cars. The sedan isn't bad either. But, oh man, the wagon is just lovely. Volvo has a new wagon now, and it clearly has this model in its dna. Such a classi. How trad!

I get it: from booty to boot.

Kcaj- I've seen the C30 and like it but like this much more.

Trailer Trad- Is the a/c in your Volvo's worthless?

ann- Had a neighbor in Chapel Hill who had the 1800. I seem to recall it (this was in 1966) was an off white or maybe it was just dirty all the time. I loved riding in that thing.

Andrea- It's certainly a booty call.

A fellow by the name of Bob Sinclair used to frequent the mailing list of the Saab Turbo! enthusiasts of which I was a member. He related detailed stories about his earlier career as an auto industry executive in the late '60s, and in particular, his exhortations to the Volvo home office about the sales potential for a shooting-brake version of the P1600. This is that car. Swedish design it may be, but the idea may well have been American.
