This leads to one of the great things about NYC... no one lives there unless they REALLY want to live in NYC.

ReplyDeleteFor half that I have a 3000 sq ft. two-story with 1/4 acre lot, 15 minute commute, country roads on my bike in 10 minutes and a park for the kiddos. Ah the Midwest. Certainly I don't have everything you gents have in NYC, but I can't say I'd trade ya.

ReplyDeleteWhen you are kidnapped or held captive, it's common for some people to sympathize with or defend their captor's actions. Since the captor holds the power of life and death over them, any restraint or lack of abuse is perceived as kindness.
Maybe it's the same thing with NYC, and, most notably, the real estate market. It's NY that holds us captive.
We're "happy" to have that $2100 studio. Heck, we reason, at least it doesn't have rats. Even Alice Olive said she's seen worse for more money. We always reason it could be worse. At least it's not as expensive as center-city London or Tokyo. ;-)
