Am I the only one who thinks the '80s are making a comeback? No. Svpply thinks so too, but I may be the only one who thinks Belinda Carlisle looked better chubby. Can't stop myself.
Most of that Apple clothing is just funny. Kind of ironic that Jobs went with the anti-fashion mock turtle neck and jeans look. About Belinda Carlisle, you're not the only one.
Reaaly, I feel stronglythat any clothing that can be identified as "80's" should be avoided. As I walk around I can see I am outnumbered in this opinion.
My Dad was a low level exec at Apple in the 80s, and as a result the items from the apple collection dominate my father's hat/belt/polo wardrobe in most of our family photos from the era.
MLS- the Go-Go's and 80s music in general was still on heavy rotation when I went to Lehigh in the 2000s...
Odd you should pick that video, I was showing it to friends a few months ago, arguing that they dressed and had hair styles like soccer moms. Odder still is my discussing this with friends. I must be missing my youth. I agree re BC but I thought the bass player was the real hottie.
The 80's fashion return was already in full effect on college campuses (among hipsters, mostly) as of two years ago. The upshot is that the fad has mostly cycled by now.
Tintin, you probably didn't notice it since you don't get to Williamsburg very often.
There's a story about a Victorian lady with a lap dog sitting on a train across from a well dressed business man smoking a cigar.
She's annoyed by the smoke, leans over and grabs the cigar outta the man's mouth and throws it out the open window. He leans over and takes her dog and throws it out the window. That's exactly how I feel whenever I'm in Williamsburg.
From this point forward, if I'm ever in a situation where there's dancing or if I'm actually forced to dance, I will do that whitebread-move left/move right-snap fingers thing Belinda does oh, so well, despite her PE teacher haircut.
Trad, come look around Denison University sometime. All you see is polos, sperries, khakis, augusta golf hats, faint moustaches. I know a few kids with Reagan Bush '84 hats. The 80s never went out of style here.
Steve Jobs' shirts were custom made for him by Japanese designer Issey Miyake. He wore Levi's with the shirts. He was fashion-conscious, and thought he'd be like Einstein: wear the same style outfit every day, and you don't spend every day wasting time trying to decide what to wear.
He owned at least a hundred of these shirts.
St. Croix has been falsely claiming they have "Steve Jobs shirts."
There is not one single wholesome or goodly thing in this article content. It should all be struck from human memory. Note: don't make the mistake of holding it up as an example of what not to do because some rebellious miscreant will still do it. Re. Belinda, see "Pat Butcher".
You think Belinda Carlisle is chubby in that video? No wonder women in this world have such horrible body image problems!
She was damn sexy at that size though! Love a girl with hips!
As for the fashion, well Apple were always ahead of the game! With shows like the Goldbergs on, it doesn't surprise me that the 80s are making a resurgence - I loved that decade, especially for the movies and music.

tibetan monks would get out of breath on those stairs.
DB- Mark my words...you'll see this soon. In the meantime, you may wanna ditch those Pliner shoes.
ReplyDeleteM Lane-It's not like you have to be creative. You just have to hide your source and have a good lawyer.
bro- You need to get with DB. He aso wears Donald Pliner shoes.
J Andrew- Love to hear your dad's stories. What a time to be working at Apple.
I think Apple could re-release every thing in this catalog (inc. the Honda Helix) and they'd do very well with it.
Oyster- You and I have a thing about red heads. She actually looks like Fanny Green. I wonder if her bass is the same color as her...never mind.
Oyster- FYI... The Fanny Green story-

When will we ever see the return of "short shorts" for men? The below-the-knee basketball shorts / surfer shorts thing is frankly unattractive, right?
ReplyDeleteI'm scared.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Brohammas.
ReplyDeleteGiuseppe- Don't be scared. Just more tartan for you and your broke customers.
ReplyDeleteAlice- You're in Philadelphia?!
ReplyDeleteFriends, I have bad news for you.

ReplyDeleteGSV- I dated a girl who danced just like that. And that's not a PE teacher hair cut. I love a woman with short hair and nice hands.
