I think this is an excerpt or "deleted scene" from the great documentary "The Aristocrats" about a joke that all comedians know and tell. A must see for any raconteur. Or time-waster for that matter.
Good catch, Ben. It is from The Aristocrats. Not to be confused with the Aristocats! DO NOT rent the Aristocrats for your children. If you do, please video tape their reactions for me.
The Aristocrats changed (for the better) how I viewed certain comedians... like Paul Reiser and the stealth show-stealer of the flick Bob Saget. What I love about the suit joke in particular is that it is likely true. Giuseppe has likely winced during his youth from actually hearing that line or similar promise at Simons.
Reiser has the chops too... he played that weasel coward "Burke" in Aliens and delivered hilarious stand-up with equal ease. I love stage-familiar comedians for serious roles because they have timing better than anyone... just watch Jackie Gleason in the Hustler. Unstoppable gravity.
Zambo- I thought Ellen Barkin was comforting in that movie. I think she still is.
YWP- Saget didn't do much for me other than the woman's comment regarding tampons. The extras in the DVD are so much better than the film itself. Tim Conway's donkey joke told by Martin Mull. Kevin Pollacks imitation of Albert Brooks. The Robin Williams, "Know it? I wrote it." Mario Cantone's dead on impression of Liza Minnelli. The hippo joke. The gorilla joke. The El Dorado joke. The joke about the the two Catholic priests having dinner. "I didn't know if I should send over a bottle of wine or a Cub Scout."
needs more helen hunt.
ReplyDeleteLove Paul Reiser....first exposed to him in "Diner"....good comedian with delivery that harkens back to the Borscht Belt greats...
ReplyDeleteSounds like something the old guys would say back when I worked at Simon's Copley Square.
ReplyDeleteWorth listening to twice.

I thought for sure the punchline was going to be, "I fucked Tony Curtis." Oh well.
