The Dawn Patrol: Wall Street

5:33 AM on 29 March 2011. Wall Street. Only thing moving is the light. From pitch black to Ektachrome blue and finally to a gold like the honey Foster used in his Americano. Delivery trucks are inspected by man and dog but I'm looking for Chesterfields, camel hair Polo and maybe a covert or two. All I see are parka shells and puffy coats....and a moon.

  1. favorite part about a night in the city was waking up early sunday morning, walking through the empty streets to grand central for the train ride home.

  2. Very nice indeed. Best time to be on the streets of the city.

  3. Beautiful. I might almost be back in New York, not sitting on a suburban sofa, listening to the sounds of workers repaving a cul-de-sac.

  4. Perhaps the dawn of a new Wall Street era...

Foster has some pretty good travel shots.

  5. Really man, at 0530 those types are either still in bed or on the Metro North in from Conn.

  6. Main Line- Been a while since I had a long night.

Alice - I thought of Bronte as the truck drove by.

Dallas- I remember a few walks of shame.

Peter- We were there until about 7. It's watching the city wake up and for some reason it seems friendlier.

LPC- I'd say there's some repaving going on around Wall St.

DB- He's damn good. Almost as good as you.

EVY - Yeah, but as I said, we were there til 7 and not much changed sartorial wise.

  7. Tintin: Ahhhh, got it. Dammit, nothing clever to add to that. Never mind.

  8. I love the city in the morning. For me it is not so much friendlier as more optimistic and hopeful. Of course that feeling bleeds away as the day goes on like a slowly deflating balloon. There is always tomorrow.

In Toronto, this has been the winter of the Canada Goose parka and Hunter rubber wellies for willowy ladies of any age. They do manage make it attractive in a naked-on-a-polar-bearskin-rug-in-a log-cabin kind of way but I would still love to see more long cashmere, or camel hair coats. And serious hats.

As for the guys, that's their problem. Makes me look better by comparison!
