That's right, we Florida natives can only slide our feet in and out of shoes, flipflops are good for that, the Bean Moc is pretty good for that too, but you've illustrated the mess that can happen with the shoestrings; see, you made it way more complicated than it needed to be, were you tryin to turn a Bean Moc into a Bean Gumshoe? You might need a Gumshoe in your lineup.
Have you seen the OD canvas ones at Bean Signature? (What am I saying, I'm sure you have.) They're a great alternative to the original, and are classic enough to look like Mr. Bean initially spec-ed them that way decades ago.
Yes, yes and yes. Everything you just said is true. The only thing I would add is that one never ever buys any other brand of Bean boot. That's just wrong.
You have inspired me to go into the attic and pull my Bean Boots out. I haven't seen them since college...which unfortunately was 20 years ago. It's time for them to make an appearance! Thanks for your cool posts!
Looking for a fresh pair to replace my college stalwarts, I recently called Bean and asked the difference between their Bean Boots and their Maine Hunting Shoe.
The rep went into how the two fit differently, one meaning to be worn with mid-weight socks, the other with heavyweight socks, ordering sizes and half sizes up and down and...I don't remember the rest.
What I do remember her saying, however, was that the rubber composition of the Maine Hunting Shoe is made to be more durable than that of the Bean Boots, "since we assume you'll be walking more in heavy brush, fields, creeks, and so on." I was happy to base my decision on that bit of practical information, since "Bean Boots" always seemed a little too cutesy anyway.
I'm not sure how happy I am with how you have equated women with children. To be honest it sounded something like this: 'Women and children can wear the frivolously-colored Bean boots. Men wear the distinguished, serious, and traditional brown.'
I must mention that Bean's has always assigned color as either men's or women's colors. The men always get the serious colors and the women are given the pastels, or in this case, the silly colors.
It's offensive to me that a company would make these kind of assumptions about color. As though gender might actually encroach upon visual territory. Well, I guess that it is men who possess the gene that produces color blindness. But still . . . there is something wrong about this penchant for determining who will like what. I know it's an odds thing, but it seems somehow less sure-handed, so to speak.

ReplyDeleteI don't think I did. It is my opinion that a man should not wear brightly colored Bean Boots as the effect can be childish or effeminate.
