Well, that's what the official line is. Boast was the raised middle finger to Lacoste and RL. The company did a lot of manufacturing for private clubs with the club crests.
I lost track of their stuff in the early '90s but about a year ago found a ton of dead stock in an Orlando Tennis / Golf outlet.
Do you know what happened after the brand ceased production? Are these new owners that bought the brand rights, or are they related to the original owners?
Ah yes, the good ole Japanese maple leaf...I might expect to see a bit of this stuff around Wesleyan University. Back in the 80's, I recall one of my school chums bragging about how the residence applications at Wesleyan actually specified tobacco as to whether one smoked or not.
The "problem" as I see it that they are selling the logo more than the garment. I am very anti-logo at this time. Nice try but pass.
"For the past 15 or so years BOAST has only been producing athletic clothing for private clubs, so if you bought a pair of shorts from the Maidstone Club pro shop it would have been made by BOAST, just without the maple leaf logo on the outside, it would have the Maidstone logo on it etc.
The owner Bill St. John stopped selling to the general public at a certain point to focus on his club business.
John and Alex, the guys who are relaunching the branded BOAST to consumers, bought the rights to the brand for North America. They now own the use of the logo and the original founder / owner Bill St.
John is still involved. They have done everything, from sourcing, design, marketing for the newly relaunched BOAST."
Trad? more like a silly fad, sweetheart. Something really pathetic about Americans - acting like silly immature children well into their 40s and 50s no wonder this country is such rapid decline.
Very cool. I have known about boast for about 15 or 16 years when I played squash in high school, but I have never seen broad exposure beyond guys who play squash (which is obviously a niche group). Glad to see they are still around and making a good product.
Boast shirts were a *huge* staple among Greenwich High (CT) prepsters through the '80s. Lacoste was _so_ outre´ '84-'88. Nice to see they're back. Paired well with Tretorn or Bean Blucher.
Brody- I'd say that kid in the picture is living a pretty charmed life right now. And unlike you he deserves it.
Silk Regimental - It's over by the big circular hotel close to the Indian restaurants over by the old Saks outlet. Big ass sign, Golf & Tennis Outlet.
Anon- Could be a fad. Doesn't matter to me. I was here before and will be here long after. But I'll tell you what's really pathetic...email me me and I'll go into detail.
Alice- I need simple.
JP - I was never a squash player but have been playing tennis for 30 years. I always liked Boast shorts over the shirts. No sure why. Maybe they were a little more subdued.
allen- I understand where you're coming from and you need to stay there because I do need to post about these parties. I just can't help myself.
foster- Hey, kid. Watch the language around here.
Main Line- They had Bud Lite but I didn't see anyone drinking it until the Yengling ran out. I would have prefered Chesterfield.
Skinny Guinea- I was my experinece that anyone wearing Boast always had rolling papers.
Chesterfield Ale...great stuff..but has been eclipsed by the Lager and as such harder to find in bars etc. Yeungling does make a great mixed case around Christmas season that includes Chesterfield and the wonderful Porter.
You're getting very Scott Schuman on us, Tintin..;) They'll be giving you your own Gap ad next. Have you seen the new Lacoste 'concept' store on Prince? Scary.
That’s fantastic! I would want leggings from here. They have a very good material, I can see that and I have been looking for a very comfortable material for bottom wear. I go for running and I needed a material just like this and obviously everybody likes to try a new brand.

Forgive my ignorance, but is that suppose to look like a marijuana leaf?
It's a Japanese maple leaf...
It's a Japanese Maple Leaf (yeah, right). Looks like a cool event.

What's up with all of the facial hair. It's everywhere, even my son is sporting a beard. Is it the new anti-fashion statement for men?

Oof! Yikes! I'm sorry, I just can't. I like your photos, though.

Made in Peru? So much for All-American fashion. Where are the Peruvian prices?
Yes! So, it's back?!
This just in from a reader,

Wow, some party. That kid in the last photo looks like he just snuck out of boarding school. Poor guy, I remember when I first saw a cute girl.
Orlando????? where????
I could use a cool logo such as the maple leaf as a subtle fuck-off sign to high-maintenance internal customers. Nice idea.
As always - best blog on the net!

Stuff that in your pipe, sunshine.
Love the simplicity of the logo.

This makes me want to shoot myself.
I don't blame you for going to these events (free booze, pretty girls) but you don't have to post about them.
I mean, f'gawdsake, this is a company that makes three polo shirts and an overpriced blazer with stupid elbow patches, WGARA?
fuck you brody
Best thing in those photos: Pretty girls in white T-shirts and Yuengling lager in everyone's hands..

Boast has made nice stuff for the Philadelphia Racquet Club for years. But the beards must go-godawful!
