Annie Wilson gave me a bow tie and all I had to do was complete a questionnaire. Is this blogging thing sweet or what? Check out her site(s) and be sure to give her bow ties a look. If you're a bow tie kinda guy. I like her style and her blog. For a Californian she has amazingly good taste.
I'm getting a sense of the late 18th - early 19th century although I don't really know why. Maybe it's the embroidery of this formal great coat from France. Annie hand makes every bow so each one is unique. Hard to go wrong with that. Hard to go wrong with $28 as well. You can see what's available here.

That's a fantastic variation on seersucker. Ben Silver offered something similar this year (though it seemed like a semi-constructed POC with already working sleeve buttons that then precluded tailoring). As with most things at BS, still rather $$$$.

I had heard of Doneckers, though only as a furniture store.

I love that suit - it's a break from the everyday blacks and tweed - but it maintains a traditional look. I'm a sucker for any unique interpretation of a classic design - especially when the design combines two classics. That bo-tie is nice, but dangerously distracting, although against pink and seersucker it's no problem.

ReplyDeleteOn the button down with bow tie controversy. It's not wrong certainly but it weakens the purity of the tie by producing a somewhat cluttered effect at the throat. Sorry Tintin, but the bowtie you illustrate is hideous. Purely personal opinion of course, no one's taste is any better than anyone elses!! The Seersucker jacket is nice however.
Anon- That's a great memory you have. Doneckers was amazing. Sitting out there in Lancaster county it was something very unique. But fear not. They have a huge outlet now. It breaks the heart.

Greg- The bow is out there but that's why I like it. It's different in its handmadeness. If that's a word? It is now! And it has story. Annie in SF made it for me. Not someone making $10 a month in a far away land.

The fabric of the bow-tie also looks unique - and any kind of throwback to true craftsmanship is wonderful.

Gregorius- Sadly, Doneckers is no more. I've been told it closed but there's a load of cheese in the outlets. It breaks my heart.
