Ciao, Tony!

I always wanted to be Italian. I took these of my best friend driving my Fiat in 1980 shortly after getting out of the Army. We'd drive around the town square in St Augustine, FL with the top down speaking in ersatz Italian. "Johnny, pasta fulgoo mini chink a minta?" "Si, Davide. Bueno pechi all goozoora." all while rolling our 'r's'. Our definition (to this day) of all things we love Italian - -"Ciao, Tony!"

  1. I always wanted to be French. Didn't realise Italian so much easier - roll the 'r' and roar about being silly in the sunshine with no top on.
    Sorted.

  3. I used to have FIAT (fix it again tony)! Junior & Senior year in HS.
A brown colored with tan racing stripes, rosewood steering wheel & luggage rack. Leather seats in tan hide & soft top for letting your hair down!
Wow, I think I miss that car!

  4. OMG, THAT took me by surprise! Workin' more of a Magnum PI look, though, methinks?

Living in your imagination leads me to believe that's where the Italian girls in their sun dresses also reside...because they're nowhere to be seen in these photos! Fun to remember more hair and less weight...

Many thanks for that post, Tony! Ciao!

  8. I married a girl who is half Sicilian - her mother made the most wonderful spaghetti sauce and meatballs - like from heaven!

Son, she'll be a widow before she's ever divorced!

  10. Seeing those photos, I can recall the smell of my '79 X1/9. It was the scent of vinyl, wool carpet, a bit of mildew from the occasional targa-topless rainshower, and most importantly, hot oil and hot brakes. I loved that car.

  11. Anon- The mildew smell I had came from a leaking a.c. that would spill on your legs everytime you cornered hard. But I loved the sound of that engine. A mechanic told me I could take it well past the red line and I did.
