Found these last year on sale. Hunter green with red and yellow trim. Ralph Lauren and made in the US of A. Asking price was $35o before being marked down to $100. I should'a bought two pair...I'm wearing these out. A beautiful shape unlike any topsider I've ever owned. Very comfortable. I salute the designer and must find out which US company made these. Hey, Tater! Have any G-2 on these? I'm looking for a life time supply.
Throw those away. Now.

Shame is an accurate choice.
ReplyDeleteAre you tring to test my loyalty?
Be well.
Do U smell people's butts when you wear those?
ReplyDeleteADG- The man with green suede shoes says no?
ReplyDeleteBH- I'm coming over to your place and giving you some advice about your flatware.
I mean NOW. Are they gone? LISTEN TO THE LADY...that Blushing one. Your sartorial currency is getting weaker by the minute.
ReplyDeleteYes. I have green suede shoes. Solid green. One color. Those tri-color tortelini...avocado-yellow-orange shag carpet colors from the '70's are scary man.
Are they gone?
Anon- You finally made a comment.
ReplyDeleteAfter 69 posts of your calling me a butt smeller and nothing else I thought some people might agree with you regarding these shoes.
ADG- Sartorial currency? I never had any. I sell insurance.
"...sell insurance"
ReplyDeleteCome on man...you couldn't sell hookers on a troop train with those shoes on. They are gone aren't they? I'm calling 311 right now.
Insurance against what loss? One's mind??? Those shoes would be adorable on a little girl. But on a middle-aged man? Frightening. An insult to tri-colored tortellini. And it gives one pause to think where you were wearing those, bare legged, in the middle of a work day.
ReplyDeleteADG- You couldn't sell a golf ball in a pro shop. I've been hit on wearing these. Ok, it was in Jacksonville, Fl and she lived in a trailer but still...
ReplyDeleteLeave my momma out of this Tintin. I mean it.
ReplyDeleteNot a bad looking shoe at all. I'd wear them on a boat or at the beach, but not in the city. They have a Rasta-type color scheme going on. Also, they are more like a camp moc than a boat shoe.
ReplyDeleteRon
Anon- In a trailer. Somewhere between Jacksonville and Palatka.
ReplyDeleteADG- You could of at least given her a double wide - - with air conditioning.
Ron- Actually, the colors are dead on for the Ballantine Beer label. It always comes back to beer.
ReplyDeleteIf a Rasta or my mamma saw someone in those, there would be an a_s whipping.
ReplyDeleteBare ankles with what can only be referred to as go-to-hell shoes...in NYC? The shame! But I can get you next generation, baby! Sebago x Colette:

Just remember, it wasn't always flatware - once it was fashion (I will not disparage your newly highly questionable understanding of the term) and you won't be hard to find wearing those shoes.
ReplyDeleteWell, I guess you could wear them on a beach in Jamaica, but then you would be required to have a hank of your hair braided and beaded. With beads that complemented the tri-colored tortellini shoes. Man, that really does sound awful, doesn't it? D
ReplyDeleteI recommend SPerry Topsiders instead
ReplyDeleteTin-tin's dad said:
ReplyDeleteBe they Lauren or Sperry "Topsiders," I wouldn't pay 2 cents for either of them. I've sworn off both since they rotted away very early.
Neither had a tread that worked well, even when "swiped."
I now wear "SAS" brand shoes. Either in lace-ups or loafers.
When boating, I have always found barefoot works best. Shoes are for shore.
I like them...then again, I live in Jacksonville. Phred on a boat? Surely you jest...btw, southern style cornbread is headed west as we speak, and not that stuff from a box that tintin endorses. This is the real deal, straight out of a cast iron skillet that was hot enough to take down a, well, take down a double wide.
ReplyDeletetm
Used to go barefoot on boats, too. Then I just got tired of losing toes and skin on sharp objects on deck (drinking on a boat makes everything sharp for my poor bare feet)...now, with boats and beer, I'll wear high-heels if I have to...
ReplyDeleteI would set me feet on fire. Actually, if they're still on, your feet may spontaneously combust.
ReplyDeleteADG- Live and let live, dude.
ReplyDeleteDB- See above.
Blushing- Let me get through this Van Day Truex bio and I'll take you on.
D- You forgot the Red Stripe and the rolling papers.
Anon- Sperrys are made in China and they crap out too quickly.
Phred- I like SAS. Made in the US as well. Do you wear them with black knee socks and shorts? Just the outfit to go with a metal detector.
tm- I can't find your scissors but am still looking. My source sold out but told me to check back. Sounds like Phred's getting that hotter than Hades Jalapeno corn bread of yours. Hot going in --Hotter going out.
CG- Bare feet work on a lazy cruiser like a 41 Morgan but if you're racing on a Tartan 10 you gotta have something on your feet. The new Sperrys seem to crap out faster than ever when they get soaked in salt water--which is why it helps to wash 'em off in fresh water but I never do.
Turling- I guess I know why these things went on sale.
Dunno, justa guess.... www.highlandshoe.com (Alden sub. if not defunct)

(They's not "doublewides", they's modulah estates. MawMaw weahs doublewides 'neath huh moodahs.)
Aw, they're not that bad - just be careful around madras with them.
ReplyDeleteSuede shoes?
ReplyDeleteThey were big in the 60's and again off and on.
In my social circle we called them
"fruit boots."
Um, I like them??? On the right person, natch. Kind of like the 4 paneled pant which I also have a fondness for. Butcha got come by it honestly. That's the catch. Btw, I tried to get Babe to go for the solid green or red last year and he wasn't having any of it. I also have a fondness for white Gucci loafers. Am I banned now?
ReplyDeleteI have been out of the RL loop for a few years, but we had been making some American handsewns with Ansewn in Maine. They were really beautiful, but did not get any play in the market at the time (earlier half of this decade).
ReplyDeleteI had heard rumors that Ansewn had gone under or was purchased by another American shoe company like Allen Edmonds. It's a shame if such a great resource of truly handsewn mocs would be no more.
Anyone know anything on Ansewn's fate?
Ansewn (Bangor, Maine) was resurrected by Alden as Highland Shoe and Belt circa 2004. Please reference above, purty clear. That web site home page has not changed in ages. May be defunct. I think PRL first used Ansewn in the late '80s or early '90s. My second guess'd be Quoddy.
ReplyDelete(Ah been scourin' the intrawebz all day searchin' for surplus Special Air Service loafers. Hoocouda node! Mr. Phred, where you get them SAS loafers out there in the middle?)
