Mr. Ades passed away in his sleep last Sunday. He was 75. I would see him at Union Square and across the street from Bloomingdales slicing carrots in a Turnbull and Asser shirt. If you don't live in New York please take a couple of minutes and watch the You Tube video below. You'll see why I love this city so much.
Indeed! 'Tis the greatest city on our Earth.
ReplyDeleteAnd so we close the book on Mr. Ades' craft. Too bad for us.
ReplyDeleteYawn. I don't quite understand the excessive (IMO) adulation given this old chap by the internet community. Yes, I have seen him, on my way in and out of my family's old Zeckendorf Towers apartment. Big deal? I always suspected he was some sort of shyster or con artist. He may very well not be one, but the first impression stuck.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool guy. I want one of those peelers! I just wish I could have gotten one from him...

ReplyDeleteWow. This guy was a major part of my Saturday trips to Union Square. A real NYC institution.
