US Open

If I were reading this blog for the first time I would wonder if this is the only pair of shoes this asshole owns. But I love them although... again... I'm not sure why. The tennis was fantastic although Williams and Federer made quick work of Stosur and Gonzalez. Still, what's not to like about a beautiful night with fall like weather and someone else picking up the tab in a luxury box with sushi and cold beer. Now that's Trad. What's not Trad is the marketing head at the Open turning tennis into something that resembles Arena Football. Very Bad. Very Bad indeed.

  1. I have a similar pair, brown suede, and can relate. I wear them way too often, and find myself staring at them during board meetings.

BTW, no one else seems to care for them - you should hear some things openly said about my shoes.

    Gotta love it!

    Great blog,
    Jeff

  3. Oh you little spoiled brat! :) How I'd love to be at the Open! Been watching every minute on USA network.
As a matter of fact, I think I'll just hit the courts right now. Thanks for the inspiration. Let me know if picked up any good serving tips! ME

  4. Insomuch as I AM reading this blog for the first time, what I'm actually wondering is this: Can our itinerant "tintin" ever bear to one day separate his loafers and trousers with something other than those glaringly mismatched derivations on the theme of Navy Blue?

  5. The matches were far more Trad when they were held at Forest Hills. Read Digby Baltzell's "Sporting Gentlemen".

  6. If the shoe fits, wear it. ;-)

  7. Shoes: Upscale TRAD loafers go for up to $700+. OK, I guess, if you need to make a fashion statement.
Ditto, belts at $400+. Belts are made to hold up your trousers (and maybe a Colt Model 1850 pistol or equal) without your pants falling down and making you look like a jerk.

Sushi is not TRAD; it's bait. If you want to eat bait, go down to the local boat dock and buy a bucket cheap. Spend the savings on good 'Piper' champagne.

  10. You love the shoes because they fit. With that in mind, don't buy anything else -- just buy more of those.

  11. See, I'm not alone. They're orange ;). But what a great spot to show them off. Cheers, Homer.

  12. Basically the only shoe my dad's worn since the '60s. He was always (by that I mean every couple years) getting them resoled, so I think it may have actually been the same pair...from the '60s.
