Not a match (always bad) but an echo (always good) as pointed out by Michael B.

I'm not a vest/waistcoat kind'a guy but do admire them. I think Britches of Georgetown, the old retailer from the 80's and 90's, is going on here big time. And of course some Paul Stuart. Reverse pleats would say 'Not Trad' to the Trad hard core but looking at how folks dress today, who's to say what's trad and what's not? If Trad is short for traditional...then these guys are certainly Trad.

Flusser's Mark Rykeen told me that more money was spent on men's clothing last year than at any other time. Who'd have guessed. He added, more crap sits in the back of men's closets. Unworn. Men don't know what to buy and are sold by companies who know even less.

And yes, there were folks who dressed like crap in the 50's but there was an educated buyer and salesperson who knew how to squeeze a buck through the basics of classic dress. Grey flannel trousers, an odd jacket or two, a big investment in shoes (you'll never leave them anywhere and it'll take a long time to outgrow them)and a tie that can be worn with anything. That's what I was taught as a Brooks Bros salesman.

Today a retailer's idea of buying 'outfits' - - a tie matched to a shirt matched to a suit matched to a pocket square - -is not only laughable...it's damned expensive and requires a very big closet.tintinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13652066200071703445noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1349290550527925310.post-88434980759911070122009-09-24T00:12:45.007-04:002009-09-24T00:12:45.007-04:00Interesting photo.
